Yesterday the first grade scholars in Mrs Owens class got a very special treat! Their class turned in the most reading logs for Reading in the Rock after winter break. They got to visit the Clinton Presidential Library and meet a 5th grade student author from Washington D.C. named Rocoo Smirne. Each student got a free copy of his book, Rocco Keeps the Beat! Music at the White House, after hearing him read it. Students ended their special event with a pizza party.

Remember, students are encouraged to read at home after school each day. Students who bring back their reading logs on Fridays always get a small prize. Keep reading!

This week, through our partnership with FoodCorps, our scholars explored nutrition and made their own Rainbow Smoothies while learning how healthy foods help their bodies grow strong. We are proud to provide hands-on experiences that connect learning, wellness, and our community. Check out the recipe and try it together at home!

Eat Smart, Chicot Cheetahs! 🐆🌈 What scholars learned: This week, scholars in grades K–5 learned about the importance of eating colorful fruits and vegetables to stay healthy and strong. Through our partnership with FoodCorps, students explored nutrition and made their own Rainbow Smoothie during class. Try it at home: Below is the same Rainbow Smoothie recipe scholars prepared. We encourage families to try it together and continue building healthy habits at home. Ingredients: • 1 cup strawberries, sliced • 1 orange, peeled and sectioned • 1 carrot, chopped or grated • 1 cup pineapple, chopped • 1 cup green grapes • 1 cup baby spinach • 1 cup blueberries • 1 cup red grapes • ½ banana, sliced • 1 cup ice cubes Instructions: Place carrots in the blender first. Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. If using frozen fruits or vegetables, ice may not be needed. Ask your scholar what they learned and how their smoothie tasted! 🌱
¡Come Inteligente, Chicot Cheetahs! 🌱
