Our Olympic Reading Challenge Has Begun!

With the Winter Olympics underway, we’re kicking off our very own Olympic Reading Challenge for 3rd-5th graders at school! Just like athletes train to compete, strong readers build their skills through daily practice — and research shows that reading just 20 minutes a day makes a huge difference.

Students are encouraged to log the books they finish using the reading log in Classlink. After completing a book and writing a short review to show their understanding, they’ll earn a punch on their reading card in the library.

The reading log can also be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSenBVED6laeJVauJirHLHYN_rSmp7bADPyh5-XiSkZj50PG4Q/viewform

Rewards include:
⭐ Spin-the-wheel prizes for every 5 books
🥉 Bronze Medal – 30 books
🥈 Silver Medal – 65 books
🥇 Gold Medal – 100 books + a pizza party!

Students have until the end of the school year to reach their goals. We’ve talked about setting achievable but challenging goals, and their goals are proudly displayed in the hallway — be sure to check them out!

Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey at home. Your encouragement makes all the difference! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Reading in the Rock books were sent home this past week in orange bags! Practicing reading is the number one way to build strong readers, so please encourage your student to read for 20 minutes each day over the break.

Feeling bored? Pick up a book! Be sure to record all reading on the reading log and return it to Mrs. Miller when we return to school in January.

Happy Holidays and happy reading!

This past Tuesday, our school had the privilege of taking part in ViPS Jane Mendel Reading Day, and our hallways were filled with the joy and energy of volunteers reading to every classroom. It was truly a special day for our students.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the community members who generously shared their time, stories, and love of reading with us. Your enthusiasm lit up our classrooms and created moments of connection that our students will remember. Experiences like these not only nurture a love of books, but also show our children how deeply their community cares about their learning and growth.

Thank you for investing in our students and helping make this event so meaningful. We are grateful for your kindness, your dedication, and the smiles you brought to our school. We look forward to welcoming you back for future opportunities to inspire and support our learners.

Our Kindergarten students have kicked off their farm unit in Wit and Wisdom! Last week in the Library, we explored the fall harvest and learned all about important crops like corn and wheat — and even discovered some of the everyday products made from them!

We also talked about the big machinery farmers use, like the combine, and how it helps harvest those large fields. A big thank-you to Economics Arkansas for the fantastic resource — our kindergarteners loved reading “It’s Corn Picking Time!”

We had some very special visitors in the library today — Mr. Mickey and Ms. Barb from the zoo! They stopped by to help us celebrate Mrs. Jeffries’ 4th grade class, who turned in the most reading logs after our summer break!

The students were all smiles as they learned about animals, asked great questions, and met some amazing zoo friends — including Buzz, a Chilean tarantula , Hagrid, a curious ferret, and Mojave, a beautiful rosy boa !

Thank you, Mr. Mickey and Ms. Barb, for bringing the excitement (and a few wild surprises!) to our library! We’re so proud of Mrs. Jeffries’ class for showing that reading doesn’t stop when school’s out — it’s an adventure that lasts all year long!
