🌍🔬 10 students from Central High competed at the International Science & Engineering Fair in Columbus, OH — the world’s largest pre-collegiate science fair with students from over 60 countries! Huge congratulations to Aakash Bhattacharyya for earning 4th place in Computational Biology ($600 prize) and to Yogi Patel, who received a full scholarship to Missouri S&T’s science camp and a $1,500 award! 🏅👏 All of the students who went represented LRSD and Arkansas with excellence! 🖤💛

Shoutout to Otter Creek Elementary School for winning a pizza party 🍕 for returning the MOST Reading In The Rock reading logs after spring break! 📖 Students who turned in their logs earned: a Little Rock Zoo pass, even MORE books to enjoy, and of course… delicious pizza! 🍕 The reading fun doesn’t stop there! 📚 Students should keep filling out their Reading in the Rock logs now through summer break. 🎉 Check this out! Students from Metro Career Tech built and donated a custom outdoor library and food pantry to Dr. Marian G Lacey K-8 Academy! Led by instructors Toyoshima Gray and Chad Moore, students used their skills in construction and automation to create, decorate, and stock both structures—complete with Lacey’s lion mascot and school sign. 🔨🪚 Real-world skills. Real community impact.
📚✨ Mabelvale Elementary had a special treat! LRSD alum and author Dr. Iris Giles stopped by to sign copies of her book "Myself My Feelings" for students. Her visit made the Summer Reading In The Rock book distribution even more exciting! 💙📖

🌟 In a touching tribute, Washington Elementary dedicated its outdoor play area to the late Mr. Bobby Davis, the beloved head custodian whose joyful spirit and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on the school community. 💙 The newly named Mr. Bobby Davis Outdoor Learning and Play Center will be a space where students can continue to learn and play—just as Mr. Davis always encouraged.

Today marked the final stop in this meaningful rotation. This program is made possible through our Volunteers in Public Schools program. 🌟 A full-circle moment at Wakefield Elementary! Earlier this month, Wakefield proudly welcomed back TaMuarion Wilson—former student and now future Buffalo Bill! TaMuarion, who attended Wakefield from kindergarten through 5th grade, returned to speak with students about the power of setting goals, working hard, and believing in yourself. 🎣 Hooked on Learning — and Fishing! 🐟 Western Hills Elementary School students had an unforgettable day at Boyle Park for the 4th Annual Fishing Derby, organized by beloved P.E. teacher and fishing enthusiast Coach Amy Kennedy! 🐟 With poles in hand and excitement in the air, 1st through 5th graders tried their luck at catching catfish in a pond freshly stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. For many, it was their very first catch — and the smiles said it all!
📚 Literacy in Action! The Rotary Club of Little Rock Afterhours continues to champion reading through its ongoing partnership with LRSD. Now in its third year, the program challenged students to read 20 minutes each day—and they rose to the occasion! 👏 Congratulations to our top three schools for total minutes read. 🥇 Mabelvale Elementary – 67,835 minutes 🥈 Chicot Elementary and Early Childhood Center – 64,515 minutes 🥉 Otter Creek Elementary School – 59,398 minutes. Each school received funds to grow its library collections. Thank you, Rotary Afterhours, for your continued support of literacy in our schools!
