The Little Rock School District is inviting students, families, staff, and community members to be part of an important conversation about the future of LRSD.
Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright announced LRSD Forward, a set of recommendations designed to make the District stronger, make the best use of its resources, and ensure students have strong schools and meaningful opportunities for years to come.
The recommendations come as LRSD, like school districts across the country, responds to changing enrollment, rising costs and the need to make sure resources are focused where they can have the greatest impact for students.
“This is about looking honestly at where we are today and making thoughtful choices about where we want to go,” Dr. Wright said. “We have a responsibility to make sure our resources are working for students - not simply maintaining the way we’ve always done things. LRSD Forward is about building a stronger district with more opportunities for our students, and we want our community to help us shape what that looks like.”
The recommendations are not final. The LRSD Board of Education will ultimately consider and make decisions after the community has had opportunities to learn more, ask questions, and provide feedback.
LRSD will host six community meetings throughout September. Students, families, staff and community members are encouraged to attend the meeting that works best for them. Meeting dates are shared below.
“We know some of these conversations may be difficult,” Wright said. “We also know our community cares deeply about our schools. We want people at the table - not just after decisions are made, but while we are working through the possibilities. We may not agree on every issue, but we can listen to one another, ask hard questions, and work together to do what is best for our students. Students before buildings.”
Additional information about LRSD Forward, including opportunities for community members to provide feedback, will be shared as the process moves forward. To view the plan and other supporting documents, visit www.lrsd.org/lrsdforward.
LRSD Forward is not simply about changing schools. It is about asking a bigger question: What do we need to do today to make sure Little Rock students have the teachers, classes, programs, activities, support and opportunities they deserve tomorrow?
LRSD encourages the community to learn more, ask questions and be part of shaping what comes next for Little Rock students.
