The Little Rock School District celebrated several dads and father figures September 3 at a special luncheon honoring participants in LRSD’s annual “Dads Take Your Child to School” Facebook Photo Contest.
Held at the Henderson Instructional Resource Center, formally a middle school, the event recognized the men who took their children to school on the first day and highlighted the importance of family involvement in student success.
An impactful moment at the luncheon was a live episode of Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright’s "Wright on Education Podcast - Fathers/Father Figures at the Table: Why Showing Up Matters.” The conversation was powerful, with dads emphasizing why fathers and positive male figures matter to children and schools.
LRSD Board Members Osyrus Bolly, Eugene Krupitsky, and Anthony Nichols were also in attendance. For Nichols, the event created a special full-circle moment as he returned to the former Henderson Middle School, where he once played football, this time as an LRSD board member supporting families and students.
The luncheon also brought plenty of excitement, food and prizes. Rock N Roll Sushi, the presenting sponsor, provided sushi and hibachi that quickly became a fan favorite. Guests also participated in prize drawings featuring gift cards, a fish fryer, movie vouchers and other giveaways. The room was especially on edge during the raffle for a Blackstone Griddle, as attendees waited to see who would take home the highly anticipated prize.

This was more than a contest, it was a celebration of the men who show up, step up and make a difference in the lives of LRSD students.
