Wing Wednesday is back at the Little Rock School District, and LRSD celebrated its return with a day full of wings, laughs, friendly competition, and a little extra heat!
The fun started at J.A. Fair K-8 Preparatory Academy, where students got a lunchtime surprise from LRSD’s own version of “Big Bird.” The larger-than-life guest helped hand out wings, posed for photos, and brought plenty of smiles as students enjoyed one of LRSD’s most popular school lunch traditions.
Things got competitive next as Gary Burton Jr. from KARK, Tamer Knight from THV11, and former TV News and Radio Host Craig O'Neill took part in a viral Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge at J.A. Fair Middle School. Students cheered on the competition as participants battled it out to see who would come out on top.
Then came the heat!
The day wrapped up at Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School with Spicy Wing Roulette, where students put their taste buds and their courage to the test. With one wing packing considerably more heat than others, students never knew exactly what they were getting until that first bite, leading to plenty of laughs and unforgettable reactions.
Since Wing Wednesday was introduced in 2023, it has quickly become a student favorite and another way LRSD Child Nutrition is making school meals something students can get excited about.
“Our goal is to make mealtime one of the best parts of the school day,” said LRSD Child Nutrition Director Stephanie Walker-Hynes. “Wing Wednesday has shown us that when we listen to students and bring a little creativity and excitement to the cafeteria, they respond. We’re proud of the work our Child Nutrition team does every day to serve nutritious, appealing meals.”
From surprise visitors and friendly competition to some seriously spicy wings, LRSD kicked off another year of Wing Wednesday in a BIG way.
