During the federal government shutdown and pause in SNAP benefits, the Little Rock School District (LRSD) is partnering with the City of Little Rock to support families who may be affected. Wednesday, LRSD announced the relaunch of the “Stock the Rock the Right Way” campaign to collect essential items and replenish school-based food pantries, ensuring that the District can respond quickly to student and family needs across the District.
Each LRSD school, Early Childhood Center, and the Administration Building, 810 W. Markham, will serve as a drop-off site for community donations. For a complete list of schools, centers, and addresses, click here.
These contributions will directly support LRSD families, with any surplus items coordinated through the District's CARES (Collecting And Restocking Essential Supplies) team for redistribution where they’re needed most.
Today's launch was hosted by Mabelvale Middle, one of LRSD's eight community schools, which hopes to establish and stock a campus-based pantry to serve its students.
"As one of LRSD’s community schools, we believe in educating the whole child. That means not only focusing on academics, but also ensuring that our students and families have the support they need outside the classroom. That’s why having a school pantry is so important. We know that when basic needs are met… when a student isn’t worried about food or hygiene…they can focus on learning, growing, and thriving," said Mabelvale Middle School Principal Jasmine Geter.
Additionally, the City of Little Rock is encouraging residents to make tax-deductible contributions to the Little Rock CARES Emergency Fund, which will provide financial assistance to local families affected by the disaster. More information is available on the City’s website, accessible here.
The effort underscores a growing need across the District, as the Arkansas Food Bank reports a 20-30% increase in families seeking food assistance. Through “Stock the Rock the wRight Way,” LRSD hopes to help bridge that gap and ensure District families facing hardship have access to essential resources.
Thank you for continuing to show that LRSD CARES - together, we’re making a difference for our students and families.
