The Little Rock School District continues its trend of positive momentum in student academic outcomes based on the preliminary release of 2025 proficiency data from the Arkansas Teaching, Learning & Assessment System (ATLAS).

LRSD students deemed proficient are those who demonstrate mastery of grade-level standards and those who demonstrate an advanced understanding of grade-level standards. From the 2024 ATLAS Assessment to the 2025 administration of the assessment, LRSD students made gains (or losses) in each of the tested content areas reflected in the graphic above.

In addition to student performance on the state’s 2025 ELA, Math, and Science assessments, LRSD is also excited to announce that on the 2025 ELPA21/Alt ELPA, which measures English proficiency for English Language Learners (ELLs), a record number of 399 ELLs scored proficient. This is our highest number of ELLs scoring proficient in any year.

This year’s preliminary proficiency assessment results demonstrate three consecutive years of progress reflecting the dedicated efforts of our students, teachers, staff, and community partners. Superintendent Dr. Jermall D. Wright stated, “These results are a testament to the hard work and resilience of our students and educators. Our district has made strategic investments in curriculum, professional development, and student support services, and it’s inspiring to see these efforts translate into tangible results.”

Dr. Wright went on to add, “Although we should pause and celebrate progress, it is also important to acknowledge where we started in 2022. There remains a lot of ground to cover, and until the majority of students in the LRSD demonstrate proficiency and are prepared for college, career, and life after high school, we cannot rest.”

Based on the state’s new accountability model, proficiency is only one component of how schools and districts are evaluated. The growth of students from one year to the next is an additional significant factor in determining school grades. Student growth calculations and school grades will be determined and announced later in the fall of 2025.

Board of Education President Joyce Wesley shared, “Celebrating these achievements inspires us to continue striving for excellence. We are proud of our students’ progress and look forward to building on this momentum to close achievement gaps and prepare all students for future success.”

The Little Rock School District remains committed to continuous improvement and will analyze these results to inform future strategies that aim to elevate student achievement further.
