Watson Elementary continues to create meaningful opportunities for students through the receipt of another competitive award. The school has been granted $2,126 through the Conservation Education Grant program from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to support the introduction of an archery program within Physical Education classes during the Spring 2026 semester.
This funding will provide essential equipment and instructional resources needed to safely implement archery activities, giving students access to a sport that emphasizes concentration, self-discipline, patience, and coordination. Archery is widely recognized for promoting goal setting, focus, and personal confidence—skills that translate directly into academic and social success. By embedding the program into PE classes, Watson ensures that all participating students benefit from this engaging and structured experience.

The grant also represents another success for Watson’s grant writer, Charlotte Cook Bowmar, who has now secured five grants for the school this year. Her dedication reflects a deep commitment to expanding student experiences and ensuring equitable access to innovative programming. Bowmar has consistently expressed that her passion for grant writing stems from a desire to provide Watson students with the same enriching opportunities available in other schools.
Principal Christopher Jackson expressed enthusiasm about the program’s launch, emphasizing its long-term value for students. “Experience matters,” Jackson noted. “When students are exposed to new challenges and activities like archery, they build confidence, discipline, and perseverance that serve them far beyond the classroom.”

Watson Elementary looks forward to implementing the program and witnessing students grow through this exciting addition to its spring curriculum.
