McDermott Elementary’s fall Scholastic Book Fair was one for the record books—literally. Thanks to a generous $3,500 donation from Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, every student at the school was able to shop for books of their own. To round out the donation to an even $4,000, Restoration Ministries Christian Fellowship, the church home of a BCBS employee, contributed an additional $500.
But the generosity didn’t stop with financial support. BCBS employees also rolled up their sleeves to help bring the Book Fair to life. Volunteers assisted with setting up and breaking down the Fair, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. On Grandparents Day, they went above and beyond by helping with sign-in, manning tables, working the cash registers at the Fair, and even taking photographs of students with their grandparents—capturing memories that families will treasure for years to come.
Through the efforts of BCBS and their Joint Operation Blue (JOB) employee resource group, McDermott hosted its largest-grossing Book Fair in school history. The event also welcomed more than 150 guests for Grandparents Day, a new record for attendance.
The impact of this support was felt most deeply by the students. Fifth graders shared heartfelt gratitude, saying, “It was really a blessing” and “They are very generous.” For many, the opportunity to select and take home books of their own was a moment they will never forget.
McDermott Elementary extends its deepest thanks to Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, JOB ERG, and Restoration Ministries Christian Fellowship for making literacy, family, and community the center of such a successful event.
Thank you, BCBS, for putting books into the hands of our students and joy into the hearts of our school community.
