Important Message - Masks Now Optional in LRSD Schools/Buildings
Attention LRSD Families:
The Little Rock School District Board of Directors voted Thursday, August 11, 2022, to make masks optional in LRSD schools and buildings. The Board followed the administration’s recommendation, noting the availability of vaccines for school-aged children and the fact that 60% of 747 teachers who responded to a survey favored making masks optional. The Board authorized Superintendent Dr. Jermall Wright to make future decisions regarding masks, virtual learning, and the closing of schools based upon conditions and the criteria listed below – in consultation with the District’s Point of Contact (POC) team:
· If information regarding a new COVID-19 variant is confirmed · If at any time the district acquires 30 cases per 10,000 (staff and students) for a period of 7 consecutive days · If active COVID-19 cases in LRSD reach or exceed .87% of the staff or student population
The administration is committed to making balanced decisions regarding the health, safety, and educational wellbeing of students and staff and decisions in the best interest of the community. Mask guidance will be announced when needed as part of LRSD’s normal protocols. Now that masks are optional, everyone is reminded to be respectful of an individual’s decision to wear or not wear a mask. Thank you in advance for your continued support.
