Superintendent Mike Poore Announces Decision to Retire
(December 9, 2021) Little Rock School District (LRSD) Superintendent Mike Poore announced his decision to retire at the end of the school year during a meeting of the LRSD Board of Education, Thursday, December 9, 2021. Poore indicated in a letter to the Little Rock “family” that while he is proud to have served as superintendent and grateful for the professional and personal relationships he has established, he wants to spend more time with his wife, children, grandchild, and parents. Poore has pledged to help with the transition of a new superintendent and says he will keep close ties with the LRSD community. We know the public will join the District in wishing Mr. Poore well as he makes plans to retire from LRSD after serving six years at the helm.
Board President Vicki Hatter offered the following statement, in part, in response to Poore’s announcement.
“Thank you for your service. Thank you for thinking about us as a district and putting us in line to compete for the brightest and best in the business of education. Thank you for constantly withstanding the pressure, and getting better and better and creating things. Even when things would break, one thing that never broke, was you. Leadership is shown in the time of crisis. Before the board was here you led, and even after the board was put into place, you continued to lead and be an adviser to us. You have literally shaped pieces of all of us.”
