Important Message from Mike Poore Regarding Vaccine Incentives for Students 10.26.21
October 26, 2021
Dear LRSD Family:
I want to apologize for a message that went out late last week and again yesterday regarding an incentive for student vaccinations. A Board member requested that the District research this matter. Our District Reading for Learning committee has reviewed the proposal, but it has not been approved by me nor has it been formally presented to the Board of Education.
It is possible that we will incentivize students who get vaccinated, but that matter still needs to reviewed by me, presented to the Board of Education for community input, and approved as an expenditure of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds by the Board.
The Ready for Learning committee is diverse, consisting of staff, parents and physicians, and it is my belief that their intent to incentivize students was genuine. If we are aware of and encourage vaccinations, the likelihood of having to quarantine students and staff is lessened, and will help determine the need for further mask mandates. However, this topic still must be further vetted per LRSD policy/protocols. We apologize again for any confusion and will keep you updated. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely, Michael Alan Poore Superintendent of Schools
