General information about ViPS Reading Day:

What is ViPS Reading Day?  It is a one-day event hosted by Volunteers in Public Schools with a two-fold objective:

  • To encourage READING for all ages.

  • To raise awareness of volunteer opportunities within the Little Rock School District.

Is registration required in order to participate?  Yes! It is our goal for every elementary classroom to have a reader on Reading Day.  All assignments are made from registrations received.

What are readers expected to do?  Readers are asked to select a story (15-30 minutes in length) to read to their assigned class.  It is important to share your love for reading with your students and encourage positive reading habits during your visit.  Many volunteers will incorporate the use of props, visuals, or use funny voices to keep students engaged.  We encourage you to have fun and be creative!  Need ideas on selecting a book? Click here

How long will it take?  Though most volunteers are in the classroom for approximately 30 minutes, allow one hour to include a timely arrival and check-in.

Once I register, when will I receive my assignment?  Most assignments are mailed during the last week of October and the first week of November. If you have not received a letter or e-mail from the ViPS office by November 10th, please call 447-4450.

Who do I contact with additional questions?
