• Understanding Recent State Board Decisions

    Attention LRSD Stakeholders:

In this article you will find important iinformation to help further clarify recent State Board actions regarding changes for the upcoming school year.  Referred to as the three "Rs", the terminology defines the actions as outlined below:

The State Board of Education voted to return the Little Rock School District to a locally elected school board with the rights and responsibilities of managing the day-to-day operations of the district.  Three guardrails were also a part of the motion and carried unanimously: the district cannot make changes to the superintendent, may not authorize any collective bargaining, and the local district can only initiate litigation with the approval of the state board.

Beginning in the fall of 2020, Hall High School will transition to a Magnet School, focusing on Science, Technology Engineering, Arts, and Math.  With this transition, the motion requires the reorganization of all Hall High School staff to meet the demands of a STEAM magnet.  Staff will receive a Contract Non-Renewal Letter and may then reapply for positions based on the criteria of the new focus area or apply at other schools in the district.

Pinnacle View High School will continue to expand with grade 10 being added in the fall of 2020.  The school’s name will be changed to West High School of Innovation and have its own principal   The distinction being named a School of Innovation, and the academic rigor that it offers, is a value added benefit to the district and the state board felt it would encourage community engagement and interest.
