Opened in 1913 at the end of a trolley line in a suburban area called Forest Park, the original building was destroyed by a tornado (some accounts say it was burned) in 1924 and replaced with the present structure.
Forest Park School, 1919. Photo courtesy of Kate Askew. Additions were made in 1930, 1953 and 1968, and the building was renovated in 1981. The school earned a National Blue Ribbon distinction in 2013, the same year it marked its 100th anniversary.
