Cathy Hayes, an English teacher at Central High School, has been named 2009 Arkansas High School English Teacher of the Year by the Arkansas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts (ACTELA). ACTELA, an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), is a non–profit professional organization dedicated to celebrating and improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. Hayes will receive her award at ACTELA’s fall luncheon on November 5 in Little Rock.
