KEY CLUB OF HALL HIGH SCHOOL
Key Club International Motto: Caring - Our Way of Life
Key Club International (with more than 5000 chapters in dozens of countries) is the world's oldest and largest student-led service organization. Sponsored by Kiwanis International, it is open to all secondary students (male/female, freshman/sophomore/junior/senior) with acceptable academic achievement and exemplary character. Each member must document at least 50 hours of service per year. (Warrior Key Clubbers earn service hours by participating in projects supported by the Key Club of Hall High School, Key Club International, the Kiwanis Club of Pulaski Heights, Kiwanis International, and other designated civic/service organizations.)
The Key Club of Hall High School holds a required meeting in HHS Room 102 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the first "school" Wednesday of each month; meeting dates for 2009-2010 are 2 September, 7 October, 4 November, 2 December, 6 January, 3 February, 3 March, 7 April, 5 May. Warrior Key Clubbers are also required to set up official club e-mail accounts which must be checked each Monday for messages from Key Club/Kiwanis. HHS teacher Alita Mantels (501.447.1959, alita.mantels@lrsd.org, 501.661.1604, alita.mantels@sbcglobal.net) serves as Faculty Advisor for Hall High's Key Club (originally chartered on 19 October 1957, rechartered on 31 October 2006), which is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Pulaski Heights. Officers for 2009-2010 are President Allison Norris, Vice President Sheridan McKisick, Treasurer Christopher Rodgers, Secretary Callum Anderson, Editor Cheyanne Hampton. Grade-level directors for 2009-2010 will be chosen no later than the required general meeting on 7 October. Officers and grade-level directors are required to attend a Key Club Board meeting in HHS Room 102 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the last "school" Wednesday of each month; Board meeting dates for 2009-2010 are 26 August, 30 September, 28 October, 18 November, 16 December, 27 January, 24 February, 31 March, 28 April, 26 May.
Every returning and prospective Key Clubber must submit an application for membership to Faculty Advisor Alita Mantels. Once it has been verified that the applicant has an above-average cumulative GPA and exemplary character, the application will be approved. The applicant must then submit the $18 annual dues (international, district, chapter) in cash to Faculty Advisor Alita Mantels. A new member must also pay a fee ($12 cash) for use of an official (but probationary) HHS Key Club shirt, which must be returned at the end of the first year. If the new member has met all requirements for active membership, a non-probationary shirt will be issued (at no charge) for the second year; the member is permitted to keep that shirt as long as active membership is maintained.
