Kids are first at Mabelvale Elementary! Every day students and faculty pledge to learn all they can learn and be the best they can be.
Kindergarten through third grade participate in the Arkansas Reading First Program. The literacy program for students in third through fifth grades is Target Teach, a customized coaching model based on both National and Arkansas Standards. Other programs at Mabelvale include Waterford Early Learning Reading & Math, Reading Renaissance, and SOAR. Students also attend the computer lab where we are implementing Compass Learning Odyssey.
This year we are excited to have City Year. They will be providing both in-school tutoring and an after-school program.
History: Mabelvale Elementary School is located in Southwest Little Rock and serves a specific attendance zone from which the students are assigned. This shadow zone surrounds the school. Our satellite zone is bordered by Baseline and Geyer Springs Roads. Our building which was built in 1980 is a very attractive beige brick building consisting of 28 classrooms, a large open media center, a large faculty work room and lounge and a cafeteria with 300 seating capacity.
There are two computer rooms equipped with 28 stations each. In addition, there is a conference room designed specifically so that parents and teachers can meet privately. This facility provides the students and staff with a pleasing atmosphere as well as a comfortable learning and work setting. We boast about our very large spacious playground featuring separate areas for primary and upper grades. There are large grass areas, a full basketball court and four separate basketball goals.
Uniforms:
Navy or khaki shorts long pants, jumpers, skirts or culottes. (Red, white, light blue, navy or yellow) shirts or blouses with collars. Students are to wear socks daily. No sandals clogs, or overalls. Students will be allowed to wear blue jeans as part of the school uniform. The blue jeans cannot have holes or writing on them. Any pants with belt loops must have a belt.
