In keeping with the commitment to make public the process for soliciting proposals for the future use of Franklin Elementary School and Woodruff Early Childhood Center, the Little Rock School District will hold meetings Tuesday-Wednesday, April 11-12, 2017, 6 p.m.  Interested parties who submitted proposals by the deadline will make presentations to the impacted school communities.

Contract Extension Approved for LRSD Supt. Mike Poore

April 6, 2017 - The employment contract for Little Rock School District Superintendent Mike Poore was renewed on April 3, 2017 for an additional two years by Arkansas Education Commissioner Johnny Key.  The contract extends Poore's role at the state's largest district to June 30, 2019.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and excited to continue our work with the students, parents and staff of LRSD," said Poore.  "The passion and commitment of this community towards our schools and students are evident, and I am proud to be a part of the team."
 

Carlos Fabian Named March "Athlete of the Month"

Carlos Fabian with Mr. PooreFor the month of March, soccer is the sport of choice for our Athlete of the Month. Carlos Fabian is a 16-year-old sophomore at Hall High School, and has been a member of the Hall Soccer team since his freshman year. He has made significant contributions toward the success of the team as its first choice goalkeeper. Fabian's goalkeeping skills coupled with his acrobatic moves help him to make saves that have resulted into conceding only 3 goals in three games – hence the team’s current conference standing of 3-0. Not only is Carlos an outstanding athlete, he is an AVID student!

LRSD Excel Advisory Committee Gets Insight from Similar Program in Bentonville

      

 A delegation of advisory committee members from the Little Rock School District recently visited the Ignite Professional Studies Program at Bentonville Public Schools to observe that district’s efforts in action.  In February, LRSD introduced the Excel program, the District’s version of Ignite, announcing plans with community partners to join the Kansas City-based Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS).  The goal is to expand college and career opportunities for high school juniors and seniors.

LRSD Seeks Proposals for Repurposing Franklin and Woodruff Campuses

February 28, 2017 - The Little Rock School District (LRSD) is fulfilling a commitment to seek proposals for the repurposing of its Franklin and Woodruff campuses.  In an effort to ensure that time is given to all parties that may be interested in submitting a proposal for the future use of these sites, the LRSD is issuing an Invitation for Submission of Interest for Redeployment of the properties.
 

LRSD Sets New Date for Election to Extend Debt

February 22, 2017 - The Little Rock School District (LRSD) announced today the date for rescheduling the election to extend its debt. The new date is Tuesday, May 9, 2017. The election, which does not call for a new tax, would generate approximately $160 million to support facilities needs throughout LRSD and would extend the debt for one bond issue by 14-years.

Assignments letters were mailed Wednesday.  In order to help us prepare for a smooth transition into the 2017-18 school year, please read your letters immediately and follow the directions.  Please also note that Check-In will be earlier for most schools this year.  We will provide additional details and reminders prior to the Check-In dates.    If you have any questions, you may contact the Student Registration Office at 501-447-2950 during normal business hours, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
