LOCAL RESTAURANTS KICK OFF ‘RESTAURANTS GIVE BACK’ HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE FOR LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS

Group aims to provide food for students in need while out-of-school for the holidays

(December 1, 2017) - The Little Rock Kitchen Cabinet, a group of local restaurant owners and operators, joined Little Rock School District Superintendent Mike Poore Friday to kick off the “Restaurants Give Back” food drive aimed at ensuring students in the District have plenty to eat while out-of-school for the upcoming holiday break.  Participating restaurants will serve as drop off locations for food items December 1 – December 8.

“Our restaurant, and our other Kitchen Cabinet restaurant members are excited to again partner with the Little Rock School District for ‘Restaurants Give Back,’” said Capi Peck, owner of Trio’s restaurant.  “We have seen that this is a major need in our community, and we greatly appreciate our customers’ generosity in helping to ensure students have food to eat this holiday season.  We collected 1.5 tons of food last year, and we hope to collect even more this year,” said Peck.

“Unfortunately, we know that for many of our students, the breakfast and lunch they receive at school may be the only meals they get during the day,” said Poore.  “We want to make sure that for the two weeks they are out of school, students have relatively nutritious food they can prepare at home.  We are grateful for our Little Rock restaurant partners and to their patrons throughout our community for stepping up to the plate to help with this important effort during such a busy time of year,” said Poore.
