LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL DISTRICT
COVENANT
FOR THE FUTURE
WHEREAS, the 1998 Revised
Desegregation and Education Plan established a workable framework for improving
the academic achievement of all students and for creating an equitable,
nondiscriminatory learning environment; and
WHEREAS, improving the academic
achievement of all students and maintaining an equitable, nondiscriminatory
learning environment will forever be the core of the Little Rock School
District’s mission; and
WHEREAS, the Little Rock School
District will no longer be required to implement the 1998 Revised Desegregation
and Education Plan after the District earns “unitary status” and has been
released from federal court supervision;
THEREFORE, the Little Rock School
District in order to manifest its post-unitary commitment to the community
hereby resolves to establish this covenant.
After obtaining “unitary status” the District will in good faith
continue to exercise its best effort to:

improve
the academic achievement of all students,
·
comply
with the Constitution, and ensure that no person is discriminated against on
the basis of race, color or ethnicity in the operation of LRSD, and
·
provide
equitable educational resources, programs and opportunity in a
nondiscriminatory environment for all students attending LRSD schools.
