Ms. Fleming Goes to Washington

This summer, Pulaski Height Middle School Speech Pathologist Carol Fleming was asked by the Arkansas Education Association to represent  the state at a Republican Capacity Building meeting with the National Education Association (NEA) in Washington, D.C.

The event was designed to bring educators from select states together to discuss the best ways to effectively build working relationships with legislators in order to lobby at the state and local levels on issues important to education.

While in Washington, Fleming had the opportunity to meet the NEA Executive Director and network with other educators from around the country. Fleming also witnessed the historic passing of the bipartisan compromise bill that rolled back student loan interest and ties new rates to U.S. Treasury yields.

In speaking about the experience, Fleming said, “It was exciting to be in our nation’s capital when important pieces of legislation impacting education were being discussed and voted upon.”
