Gibbs Fifth Grader Claims Top Spot in Campus Geography Bee

%th Grader Waylon Matthews pictured with 1st place Geography Bee trophyWaylon Matthews sure knows his way around a map!  The 5th grader can be proud of  his championship win at  the Gibbs International Magnet School Geography Bee, Thursday, January 18, 2018.  Since December, fourth and fifth graders at Gibbs have been involved in the campus level competition for  the Geography Bee.  Student participation was whittled down from  nearly 100 to 35 spots on the Bee Preliminary Rounds.  From 35 students, participants were narrowed down to 10.  The Top 10 competed for the final three slots.  Coming in as second runner-up in that round:  fifth-grader, Connor Criss.  The final two students competed in the Championship Round.  Fifth grader James Markell claimed the first runner-up spot.  Waylon's skills went into high gear, earning him the 2018 Gibbs Geography Bee Championship. Congratulations to Waylon and all 5th graders on your success!  Waylon will now take the difficult test to qualify for the state competition to be held this Spring on the UCA Campus in Conway.  Good luck, Waylon!
