Please help us congratulate sisters and LRCH debaters, Juliette Jung and Christina Jung, for securing their first bid to the National Tournament of Champions at the University of Texas Longhorn Classic in December 2016! The Jungs finished prelims 5-1 and entered eliminations as the 3rd seed. They defeated Westwood (Austin, Texas) in the bid round. LRCH will once again represent Arkansas at the TOC in Lexington, Kentucky in April! Back to back qualifiers is historic for Central's program. Additionally, Juliette was TOP SPEAKER out of 192 debaters in the field! Christina was FOURTH!
Matthew Cole and Chloe Cunningham finished in the Sweet 16 of the tournament, defeating nationally-ranked Jesuit LR (Dallas, Texas) in Double Octafinals and ending their run in a hard-fought 2-1 decision debate against top 5 team LASA MS (Austin, Texas) in Octafinals. Matthew was recognized at 15th Speaker!
Both teams competed in the prestigious Texas Round Robin following the Longhorn Classic. Central is the only school from Arkansas to ever be invited to this competition. Jung/Jung finished 3rd Place overall in the Round Robin, and Juliette was 2nd Speaker. A Round Robin is an elite competition for eight teams considered among the top teams in the country. Tiger Debate is very excited to be getting this recognition again this year.
