LRSD’s EXCEL Medical Students Benefit from Blue & You Grant


EXCEL Logo(December 6, 2017) - The Little Rock School District is among only 40 recipients out of more than 200 applicants to be awarded a grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas.  LRSD’s EXCEL Advanced Medical Sciences Program will receive the $117,460 requested grant to support concurrent credit opportunities for students who are studying careers related to medicine. 

Little Rock School District Aspiring Leadership Institute - 2017

The purpose of the LRSD Aspiring Leadership Institute is to identify, recruit, and groom school-based leaders to assume leadership positions in the near future within the Little Rock School District.  The institute is framed around the newly adopted professional standards for educational leaders which are:

  1. Mission, Vision, and Core Values
  2. Ethics and Professional Norms
  3. Equity and Cultural Responsiveness
  4. Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
  5. Community of Care and Support for Students
  6. Professional Capacity of School Personnel
  7. Professional Community for Teachers and Staff
  8. Meaningful Engagement of Families and Community
  9. Operations and Management
  10. School Improvement

This four-session institute will provide participants with rigorous and thought-provoking activities to extend thinking and practices around the leadership standards.  All participants are expected to be fully engaged, arrive on time, and attend each themed session from 4:30-8:00 p.m.:

October 24 - Exploring the Leader Within
December 12 - Cultivating a Culture of Excellence
February 27 - Cultural Responsive Leadership
May 8 -  Culminating Activities

EAST Students from PVMS Claim Top Spot in Statewide PSA Contest

EAST students Emma Brown and Michelle Gong, Pinnacle View Middle School, were selected as the winners of the 2017 Computer Science for Arkansas PSA Competition.

Photo of Michelle Gong and Emma Brown - winners of East PSA contestThe PSA competition was created through a partnership with the Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN), Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), and the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas as well as AT&T, to empower females to pursue the field of Computer Science.

The competition was open to all 6-12th grade students in the state of Arkansas, and the winning PSA will be professionally produced by AETN to air through various media outlets. Emma and Michelle will tour AETN on November 15, 2017 and observe the PSA production. The final PSA will be revealed at this years’ Girls of Promise Coding Summit in December.  Congrats, Emma and Michelle. We are so proud of you!

Meet LRSD Athletes of the Month for September and October

October 2017
Congratulations to Parkview Senior Zachery L. Smith, named LRSD Athlete of the Month for October 2017.  He is a standout running back and strong safety. Zach as he is affectionately called, had  836 rushing yards on 36 carries for 8 rushing touchdowns at the time of his selection. He also had 6 receptions for 86 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown.  All this while being active in his community and church.  He’s a member of Arkansas Commitment and maintains a 3.025 GPA.  


September 2017

A three-year starter from McClellan High School earns the distinction as Athlete of the Month in Photo of Bennie Kemp of McClellanSeptember.  Bennie L. Kemp III is the team captain and has racked up quite a few accolades in his time at the school. At the time he was selected, he'd scored five touchdowns in the Crimson Lions' game against Sheridan.  He's only lost eight games since arriving at McClellan. He was second in tackles on the team during his sophomore year.  In addition to being an outstanding athlete, he understands the importance of academics, maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

LRCH Students Join Peers for Aquatic Science Education and Career Exploration Opportunity
