Tech High opened in the fall of 1944 with approximately 125 students. It was organized for "the express purpose of teaching each boy enrolled some trade so that, upon completion of his high school work, he will have a working knowledge of some trade in order that he may go to work immediately after graduation and earn a competent livelihood." Some trades taught at Technical High were machine shop, automobile mechanics, aircraft maintenance and electric welding.

Tech High closed before 1965, when Metropolitan Career-Technical Center opened.
