Partners in Education 'Lunch and Learn' Event held June 8.

Partners have an impact on the Little Rock School District and we appreciate all they do! If your company or organization is a Partner in Education contact the ViPS office so we can help you prepare for the 2016-2017 school year. Summer is a great time to complete needs assessments, update your files and take of 'all that administrative stuff' that might be limiting your partnership's growth. The PIE Lunch and Learn gave partners and people opportunity to connect. Plan to connect with us next time as additional PIE events are in the making.  Below are a few of the Partners represented at the luncheon.

In recognition of September 11 National Day of Service community members spent time at many Little Rock elementary schools reading in classrooms. We estimate that volunteers read to over 1500 students in observance of this special day. Many thanks to those of you who volunteered in our schools!

Community responds to requests for service!  The Little Rock School District is excited about the recent outpouring of support from individuals and community groups embracing the district-wide effort to help every child read at grade level.  Campaigns for involvement from organizations such as AR Kids Read, Love Your School, STEP, JR. League, Partners in Education and many others have made a huge difference.  Volunteers have a choice.  Thank you for choosing LRSD!

Students become strong readers with practice. When they love what they are reading they want to read more!

We are training volunteers as reading tutors now. Won't you join them? Here's how.

Pictured left:  Debbie Milam conducts training of recent AR Kids Read recruits.

An Evening for the Stars will spotlight  VOLUNTEERS and READING!

For over thirty years ViPS has hosted the annual volunteer appreciation event known as An Evening for the Stars. We love recognizing all of our wonderful parents, volunteers, staff and volunteer programs.

This year we would like to create an even more purposeful agenda for the gathering. We will be encouraging all attendees of An Evening for the Stars on April 15 (2014) to bring a book donation.  The books will be forwarded on to schools and students who need them.

Don't you think 'paying it forward' is a great way to honor LRSD volunteers?!

Stay tuned.  More details will be coming soon!

ViPS' most recent book donations were made in honor of Theodorsia Fisher's birthday.  Due to her request to family and friends over thirty books will be added to our reading treasures!

Think of ways you can share your love for reading!

Click here to find how LRSD volunteers qualify for the President's Volunteer Service Award (2014).

The ViPS Board donated treasure chests of books to each elementary school in the district in honor of ViPS' 40th anniversary (Spring 2013).  Board members personally delivered the chests to the school media specialists before school dismissed for summer break.  Our hope is the chests will be utilitized during ViPS Reading Day and other special reading events schools host during the year.

Pictured below:  Phil Burch (left) prepares the treasure chests for the schools. Kathryn Buril (center right) delivers to one to Romine media specialist Chanetta Chase.  Eric Higgins (right) read to students at Mabelvale Elementary.

'An Evening for the Stars' on April 16, 2013 was a huge success as Craig O'Neill emceed the program for a crowd of 350+ attendees.   Check out the AR Times ad of all ViPS award nominees and winners.

Thanks to W.J. Monagle for his KTHV interview as we prepared for the event.

This year Volunteers in Public Schools is celebrating its 40 year history with the Little Rock School District!  To commemorate the 40th anniversary of ViPS, volunteers reflected on the organization's history, sharing decades of insights through their own personal involvement.
