Metropolitan
7701 Scott Hamilton Drive

Metropolitan was so named because it serves not only those students in the LRSD but also in surrounding communities and counties interested in career training in a wide variety of fields including auto body and paint technology, automotive technology, advertising design, computer-aided drafting (CAD)/geographic information systems (GIS), cosmetology, culinary arts, diesel technology, law enforcement/forensic science, medical professions, metal fabrication/welding, microcomputers, printing technology, radio broadcasting and television production. The center opened in 1965 after Technical High, located at 8th Street and Fair Park, closed. An extensive addition was built in 1972, and in 1973 Metro converted to an Area Vocational Center.

A tornado caused approximately $1.3 million damage to Metro on
January 21, 1999. This memorable day spawned a series of deadly
tornadoes that wreaked havoc across the state.
