Mateo Named Top 4 Semifinalist in Arkansas Teacher of the Year

September 28, 2016—Today, Emma Mateo, 2016 Marian G. Lacey Educator of the Year, made the top four cut as a semifinalist in the 2016 Arkansas Teacher of the Year competition. Mateo was a special education teacher at Otter Creek Elementary School when she won the top honor for LRSD. She now works at the new west Little Rock middle school, Pinnacle View, where she serves as a member of the school’s leadership team and chairs the School Based Intervention Team in addition to her regular duties supporting the school’s English and math teachers in educating exceptional children. Governor Asa Hutchinson and Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Johnny Key recognized Mateo as both a regional finalist and statewide semifinalist in a special ceremony in the Old Supreme Court room at the Capitol.
