LRSD Board of Directors Selects Dr. Dexter Suggs as New Supt.

The Little Rock School District Board of Education announced the selection of Dr. Dexter Suggs of Indianapolis, Indiana, as the District's new superintendent. 

 

Dr. Suggs has served as the Chief of Staff for Indianapolis since July, 2012. His prior experience includes many facets of the educational process, including the positions of Chief Information Officer/Superintendent, Director of Operations and Communications, and principal in the 31,000-student Indianapolis district. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Milken National Educator Award.

"We believe he has the talent, experience and commitment necessary to help our students achieve their full potential and to help us fulfill our mission of creating excellence for tomorrow."

 

Dr. Suggs holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University, a Master of Education Administration Supervision from Indiana University-Purdue University, a Master of Education in Curriculum/Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University.

 

Dr. Suggs was one of four finalists being interviewed by the Board during a national search and will succeed Dr. Morris Holmes, LRSD's superintendent since January, 2011. Dr. Holmes announced his resignation effective March 22, three months before his contract is to expire.  Details regarding Dr. Suggs' arrival will be announced after they are finalized.
