Academic Signing Day mirrors athletic signing days, where top athletes sign letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level. As with athletic signings, high-achieving students choosing to study here in Arkansas and out-of-state are equally celebrated!
Many members of the Class of 2014 have received significant academic awards and substantial scholarships. While several of this year's honorees have chosen to attend Arkansas colleges and universities, others plan to attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities across the country, including Boston University, Duke, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Pomona College, University of Southern California and Yale. Among those being celebrated are a Gates Millennium Scholar, a student who scored a perfect 36 on the ACT, and academically gifted student athletes.
To qualify for Academic Signing Day, graduates were required to achieve at least one of the following: 1) cumulative 4.0 grade point average from ninth through 12th grade; 2) valedictorian, salutatorian, or the third or fourth highest rank in their class; 3) National Achievement Semifinalist; 4) National Hispanic Scholar; and/or 5) National Merit Semi-finalist.
Governor Mike Beebe addressed the students and Arkansas Public Service Commission Chairman Colette Honorable provided the keynote speech.
