The research-based English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) program is the alternative language services program selected to address the affective, linguistic and cognitive needs of the limited-English proficient (LEP) students. The first goal of the ESL program is to enable identified students to master English language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and content area concepts and skills so that students are able to participate in the regular program as quickly as possible. The second goal of the program is to provide identified students with the cultural literacy necessary for them to feel comfortable in participating in the school, community and greater community.
