Central High Adds "Crown" to List of Journalism Honors

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced its top awards for scholastic publications at the 90th annual Scholastic Convention. Central High’s “The Pix” yearbook was named a Crown finalist, one of only two schools in the state of Arkansas and 60 schools across the nation to be given this honor. This year a total of 1,236 digital, newspapers, magazines and yearbooks were eligible for judging in the Crown Awards Program. The Board of Crown Judges judged all entries at Columbia University. Both print and digital publications were judged on writing/editing, design, content, concept, photography, art and graphics.

Other recent honors

• 2013-2014 Pix Yearbook received a Gold Medalist certificate from Columbia Student Press Association.

• Class of 2014 Graduate Sam Herndon’s photo won the National Student Press Association 2014 Photo of the Year: Environmental Portrait.

• Journalism Instructor Ms. Leonard Whitney was chosen as a speaker at the Journalism Education Association/ National Student Press Association annual fall conference in Washington D.C. Whitney has also been invited to speak at the Columbia Student Press Association spring conference in NYC.

• This summer at Arkansas Student Press Association our staff won Best Graphic Portfolio

• At the Gloria Shields Journalism Camp this summer we won: Best Yearbook Design & Concept, Outstanding Photo Story and an Overall Excellence award.
