23 Dunbar Spanish Students Shine on National Spanish Exams

Picture of 23 world language students in front of Dunbar Middle SchoolCongratulations to the 23 world language students from Dunbar Middle School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2016 National Spanish Examinations. Students from Dunbar Middle School earned a total of 15 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals along with 2 honorable mentions.  “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 160,000 students participating in 2016.”  Students from Dunbar Middle School have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teacher Robin Kratzke.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. This year over 1,772 students participated in the National Spanish Exam in Arkansas.  Dunbar students, taught by Robin Kratzke, swept the state in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Spanish Levels I and II.  The top winners in each category and the top 10% winners are listed below.  The students who place on the NSE in AR will receive a medal and a check (1st: $75, 2nd: $50, and 3rd $25).  Students who place in the Top 10 % will also receive a medal.
